ChefNotes: Guy Fieri ChefNotes: The Rachael Ray ChefNotes: Anthony Bourdain ChefNotes: The Neelys ChefNotes: Paula Deen
ChefNotes: Guy Fieri How do I hate Guy Fieri? There are not enough numbers to count the ways… I… HATE… GUY FIERI. I know, I know. He’s popular. He’s “edgy.” He cooks to the EXTREME! If I were a NASCAR fan (which is, I’m sure, his target demographic), I’m sure I’d love him. His food? I’m neutral about [...]
ChefNotes: The Rachael Ray No, you didn’t read that wrong… to me, she’s not Rachael Ray… she is The Rachael Ray. And I’m purposely not fixing the formatting on her picture because I don’t care if this theme cuts off her head. Back in her 30-Minute Meals days, I was neutral about her. I didn’t overly like her, partly [...]
ChefNotes: Anthony Bourdain To commemorate his 100th episode of No Reservations tonight, I thought it only fitting to write today’s Chef’Notes about Anthony Bourdain. He’s often called the “bad boy” of the culinary world, and his very public admissions of prior drug and alcohol abuse (not to mention all manner of restaurant shenanigans) causes many people to believe [...]
ChefNotes: The Neelys No. When I try to come up with what I think of the Neelys, that’s pretty much all that comes to mind: No. On paper, there’s nothing about them that I shouldn’t like. Successful restaurant, barbecue sauce and grilled meat. What’s not to love about that? For some reason, the Neelys have decided to go [...]
ChefNotes: Paula Deen I have to admit, I’m torn on Paula. She seems nice, bright, bubbly and cheerful. She seems genuine and I respect her ability to run a successful restaurant business for years before Food Network ever let her near a camera… more than a few of the current cavalcade of network personalities can’t even claim that [...]

NFNS: Where Are They Now?

You can’t turn on food television anymore without seeing a Next Food Network Star. If you’re watching Food Network and Guy Fieri isn’t on, wait 30 minutes… he’ll be there. Even if it’s just a commercial. Aarti’s show is currently running weekly – it’s probably only a matter of time before Aarti the Brand-Name Celeb Chef starts being shoved down our throats.

Thing is, though, those are only two of the Next Food Network Star winners… there have been six. What’s going on with the other four? And why are non NFNS winners getting shows that are more hyped and promoted by the network? Read More…

ICA: Kostow vs. Cora [Spoilers]

Last night’s Iron Chef America battle left me surprised and not at all surprised at the same time.

Not at all surprised that Cat Cora lost… again. Don’t get me wrong, I LIKE her just fine (I’ll talk more about her when I do her Chef’s Notes post), but she has a terrible ICA record and should honestly probably not be an Iron Chef. I’m digressing though – just know now that usually if it’s Cora vs. anyone else, I usually have my money on “anyone else” taking the win. I do have to give her props on this one, though – she only lost by 1 point, which is really good for her.

The surprise to me was Cora’s sous chefs: Richard Blais and Ed Cotton. Read More…

Exit Interview: Top Chef’s Tiffany

E! Online has a nice (but all too brief) Q&A with Tiffany, who sadly sent home on Wednesday’s episode of Top Chef DC. Check it out!

Personally, I REALLY pegged her or Ed to win the finale. Though he’s not my favorite, I really wouldn’t even mind if Angelo won. But to see Kevin make it to the Final Four kind of upsets me, especially since he was such a jerk about the expediting during the concession stand challenge (last week’s episode). Read More…

Live TwEvents

Working on scheduling a live Twitter Event soon after the site launch. Just have to work out the logistics of how to get as many people in different time zones on at the same time watching the same thing. And choosing what to watch, of course. More info to come.

Snark Update

Basically working on back end things right now. Will be back to posting new Chef’s Notes and commentary while I count down to the official site launch.

Currently aiming for a September 20th official site launch. Until then, expect daily updates, changes and content to whet your appetite.
